Jim has served as the Executive Director since 2002. Prior to coming to LCRI, Jim worked for Natural Resource Conservation Service for 33 years. Now Jim leads LCRI’s efforts on biomass development, carbon credits systems for forestry, third party monitoring on the Fremont National Forest and collaborative forest management. In addition to biomass Jim is working on geothermal, hydro, solar and wind energy projects in Lake County. Jim served 5 years as an advisor at the University of Washington initiating several forest carbon research projects. Jim serves on the Governors Renewable Energy Workgroup helping develop policy and legislation for renewable energy in Oregon. Jim is a member of the Governor’s Oregon Way Advisory Group assisting the Governor by determining appropriate projects for the federal stimulus dollars.
Sara Mercier – Community and Energy Coordinator
Sara comes to LCRI through the Resource Assistance for Rural Environments (RARE) Americorps Program. She is in the middle of a year of service with LCRI. Sara moved to Lakeview from Portland, Maine in September of 2015. In 2015 she graduated from Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering and a minor in landscape architecture. During her time in college she studied abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark where she studied renewable energy technologies throughout northern Europe. (The picture to the right is Sara on top of a wind turbine in northern Germany!) There, she became inspired to continue working in this field. Sara has a passion for sustainable cities, including renewable energy, transportation systems, and public spaces and plans to pursuit a career in this field.
