Deep Well Geothermal Feasibility Study for Lakeview

In 2011 Oregon Department of Energy and LCRI responded to a request from the US Environmental Protection Agency for proposals to study contaminated or previously contaminate sites for renewable energy development. We were fortunate enough to be one of twenty-six projects selected for the study. Click here for a description of the project.

The first site visit was in late January, 2012. EPA and National Renewable Energy Laboratories (NREL) will investigate geothermal possibilities at the site. Lake County has considerable geothermal resources at very shallow depths but there is no data on the resources available between 3,000 and 6,000 feet. The project will determine the size and production of the reservoir. If feasible the EPA/NREL team will assist with an request for proposal to develop the site. At this point our knowledge is limited and we will keep you updated on this web-page as we learn more.
